1. Introduction
Trivia Tribe ('the Company', 'we', 'us', or 'our') operates the Trivia Tribe mobile application (the 'App'). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy. This app is designed to be a "privacy-first" platform for quiz participants.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
Unlike many other apps, Trivia Tribe is built to function without collecting personal information.
- No Personal Data: We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or physical addresses.
- No Account Creation: Users are not required to sign in or create an account.
- No Device Data: We do not access your device’s contacts, photos, camera, or microphone.
- No Tracking: We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, or any "fingerprinting" techniques to identify you or your device across other apps or websites.
3. Information You Provide Voluntarily
The only data processed by the app is the information you explicitly type into the form:
- Team Names: You are asked to provide a team name. This is used solely to identify your group on the host's leaderboard during the live session. We recommend not using your real full name.
- Quiz Answers: Your submitted answers are processed in real-time to calculate scores.
- Retention: This data is temporary and is typically deleted or anonymized once the quiz session is concluded.
- User Responsibility: The App does not require, verify, or validate the accuracy of Team Names. If you choose to input personal information (such as your real name) instead of a pseudonym, you do so at your own discretion. The Company is not responsible for the disclosure of any personal data voluntarily entered into non-personal fields.
4. Technical Usage Monitoring (Fair Play)
To ensure quiz integrity, the App monitors "State Changes" during an active session.
- What is Collected: If the App enters the background or becomes inactive for a set duration, a "flag" is recorded in our secure backend database (Supabase) linked to your chosen Team Name.
- Purpose: This information is provided to the Quiz Host to help identify potential external assistance or inactivity. The Host uses this data at their sole discretion.
- Scope: This monitoring is limited to the App's status. The Company does not see or record what other apps you are using, your browsing history, or your screen content.
- Retention: These flags are stored temporarily for the duration of the event and are deleted or anonymized once the quiz session is concluded.
- Data Storage: Data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase. By using the App, you acknowledge that this non-personal data (Team Name and Fair Play flags) may be processed on servers located outside of South Africa.
5. Third-Party Services
The Company does not share, sell, or trade any user data with third parties. The App does not contain third-party advertising or analytics SDKs (like Facebook or Google Analytics) that track user behavior.
6. Children’s Privacy
Because we do not collect any personal information, our app is safe for users of all ages. However, we do not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children under the age of 13 (or 18 in South Africa per POPIA).
7. Compliance (POPIA & Global Standards)
This policy complies with the South African Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and international App Store guidelines. Since no personal information is processed (limited to user-provided strings), the "Responsible Party" duties under POPIA are limited to the protection of that temporary data. The company does not verify user input and is not liable for personal info voluntarily disclosed by users. The Responsible Party as defined by POPIA is Trivia Tribe, a company registered in South Africa.
